The availability of duplex printing has been increased across campus. All Black & White Xerox printers in the Information Commons in the Bartle Library, Science Library and University Downtown Center now have the capability to print duplex. In addition the Black & White Xerox printers in Academic A G06/G14 and Science 2 134 are also Duplex capable.

The increase in duplex printing capability will help to encourage a reduction in paper usage. When printing from personal equipment it is important to use the duplex option when printing. Computers in the Information Commons and Computer PODs automatically set the duplex options when printing to a duplex printer.

Last year students at Binghamton printed over 10,000,000 pages! Please think before you print and consider these tips to help conserve resources, reduce waste, and make your printing quota last longer.

Print duplex whenever possible

Correct errors before printing. Spell check and use ”print preview” to identify editing and formatting problems.

When printing from a web browser, use “print preview” to see how the page will be laid out. Print only the selection of pages that you need.

When PowerPoint printing, print handouts instead of slides. You can print up to 9 slides per page. Make this selection on the Print dialog box.

Avoid printing e-mails to simply read them. If you must print multiple emails, cut and paste them into a single MS Word file.

Share documents electronically using Google Docs, Blackboard or e-mail

Remember: Think before you print.

Our scanners are very popular so we have developed the following policy to help ensure access to them for everyone.

Scanning equipment is available on a limited number of workstations in the Bartle Information Commons, Science Library Information Commons and the UDC Library – Information Commons. Although these workstations are available for general computing, priority use of them shall be given to those needing to scan materials for academic needs. Those using the workstations for other purposes may be asked to yield the computer to those needing to scan.

If you are scanning and other are waiting to scan, we ask that you limit your time on the workstation to 30 minutes.
